LTP at Russell Byers ‘Celebration of Learning’

Yesterday afternoon I was invited to attend Russell Byer’s annual ‘Celebration of Learning’ program, which features presentations by each grade for parents demonstrating what students have been working on all year.

Amy, Allen and John presented their Barbara Kruger-inspired works, having each student walking across stage reading their powerful statements in front of a projected accompanying collaged photograph. Afterwards, we headed upstairs to Allen Garner’s 4th grade classroom where students presented each of additional 3 parts of the LTP project to parents and other teachers in the audience. The students read first and third person stories they had written about photographs by Zoe Strauss and Vivian Meier; presented books of photographs and poetry from an “I Am From” poetry project, and showed photographs with accompanying stories written for the theme of “Outside My Window.”
